Classification

Classify: means to group things together based on their similarities.
Trait: is a feature that a thing has.
Kingdom: is the largest group of living things.

Phylum: is the largest group within a kingdom.
Class: is the largest group within a phylum.
 
Order: is the largest group within a class.

Family: is the largest group within a order.

Genus : is the largest group within  a family.

Specie: is the smallest group of  living things.



Scientific Name: the genus and the specie named together.
Moneran: are one-celled organism that dont have a nucleus.
Protist: are mostly single-celled organism that have a nucleus and other cell parts.
Fungi: are organism that have cell walls and absorb food from their surroundings.
Plant: are organisms that are made up of many cells, have chlorophyll, and can make their own food.
Animal: are organisms that have many cells, cant make their own food and can move.




Features of Life and Cell

Reproduce: means to form offspring similar to the parents.
Development: is all the change that occur as a living thing grow.
Consumer: are all living things that eat, or consume, other living things.
Producer: are living things that make, or produce, thier oxn food.
Cellular Respiration: is the process by which food is broken down and energy is released.
Cell: is the basic unit of life.
Adaptation: a trait that makes a living thing better able to survive.

Cell Membrane: Controls what move into and out the cell.
Nucleus: contol cell activities.
Nuclear Membrane: controls what moves into ande out of the nucleus.
Nucleolus: help the ribosomes.
Chromosome: Carry information that determines traits.
Cytoplasm: Contains cell parts.
Ribosome: Where proteins are made.
Mitochondria: Produce energy.
Vacuole: Store food, water, and minerals.
Centriole: Help with the reproduction.
Chloroplast: Makes food for plant.
Cell Wall: Protects and support the cell.

Diffusion: movement of a substance from where there is a large amount of it to where there is a small amount.
Osmosis: the movement of water across the cell membrane.
Tissue: is a group of similar cells that work together to carry out a special job.
Organ System: a group ogf organs that work together to do a certain job.
Organism: is a living thing.





The study of life

Biology: Is the study of living things and once living things.
Light Microscope: Light passes through the object being looked at and then through two more lenses.
Stereo Microscope: Is used for viewinglarge objects and things through which light cannot pass.

Internactional System of Unit: Is the measurement based on unit of 10.

Meter: The SI unit of lenght.

Volume: Is the amount of space a substance ocuppies.

Kilogram: The SI unit of mass.

Celsius: The scale with which scientists measure temperature.

Scientific Method: Serie of steps use to solve problems.

Hypothesis: A statement that can be tested.

Experiment: Testing the Hypothesis using a series of steps with controlled conditions.

Variable: Is something that cause the changes observed in a experiment.

Control: Is a standard for comparing results.

Data: Are the recorded  facts or measurement  from measurements from an experiment.

Theory: Is a hypothesis that has been tested again and again by many scientists, similar results each time.

Technology: The use of scientificts discoveries to solve problems.

Learning About Heredity

Have you ever heard of purple corn. Corn kernels can be purple as well as yellow. Color is a characteristic that is passed from the parent corn plants to the offspring.It is passed on through the seeds.A characteristic that is passed from parent to offspring is called an inherited trait. Heredity is the passing these traits from one generation to be next.

Geologic Time

Until the mid 1800s most people thought Earth was only a few thousand years old. Today there is much scientific evidence that some of Earth´s rocks are several billions of years old. Telling the relative age of rock layers is not as simple as these two ideas seem to be. Somtimes forces within Eath tilt , fold , or overturn layers of rocks.As people dig into rock layers, they often find fossils. Ossils are any remains , trace, or imprint of living thing preserved in Earth's crust. the era we live in now , the Cenozoic, began about 70 million years ago .

The Rock Cycle

How would you know a rock when you saw one?You would need to know the properties.To begin with, rocks are solid.A rock is a mineral or a mixture of  minerals.Because most rocks are mixtures of  things,they are not as easy to tell apart as indentify a rock is by identifying the minerals it contains.I now tree types of rocks that are: igneous rock,sedimentary rock ,and metamorphic rocks.The igneous rocks form when hot liquid rock material cools and hardens into solid .the sedimentary rock ,Remember that weathering breaks down rocks into pieces of sediment.And the metamorphic rock was another kind of rock that changed . the rocks start out as igneous roks,sedimentary rocks,or even other metamorphic rocks.

Lift,Carry,and Drop

Along moutaintops and hillsides, weathering is breaking  down rock into sediment.they can be
fine bits of clay. It can be larger particles ,such as sand or gravity.How Does Flowing Water Work?
Flowing water makes a powerful force that changes the shape of  Earth´s surface.It can toss loose particles
of rock around and carry them along as it flows downhill.
